Description

This is an Ha OIII composition using the Forax method of combining and Lum creation in PI.  The Helix Nebula is a planetary nebula located in the constellation Aquarius about 655 ly's distant.  It was discovered around 1824 by Karl Ludwig Harding.  The Helix Nebula was the first planetary nebula discovered with cometary knots.  There are approximately 40,000 of these knots which radiate out with their tales pointing toward the central star.  The knots are a result of the low density, high velocity material from the inner nebula expanding into the higher density slower expanding material of the outer nebula.
